Renowned for its unique leaning walls, the Ebb Tide is generally credited as being the first "Doo Wop" motel in Wildwood Crest. Designed by the legendary Lou Morey, this classic helped foster in a new era of colorful and diverse mid-century architecture on the island when it opened in 1957. Ironically, the Ebb Tide would also become one of the first victims of the redevelopment phase that continues to sweep the Wildwoods.
The Ebb Tide was situated at the northeast corner of Atlantic and Lavender in northern Wildwood Crest. It was bordered to the north by the
Markay Motel (later known as the
Island Time Motel).
- The Ebb Tide was built by Lou and Will Morey.
- Original owners of the motel were Harry Stokes Jr. and Margaret Stokes, along with Albert and Agnes Beers.
- Along with the Markay, the Ebb Tide was demolished in favor of a new condominium complex in December of 2003.
