Thematic representations of far away lands and cultures are one of the celebrated focal points of 'Doo Wop.' For whatever reason, traditional Asian themes never took off in popularity as prominently as, say, Polynesian designs on the island did. Whether it's because or in spite of this, the Jade East has always been a standout in its own right. This diminutive classic, though often overlooked, is one of the oldest and most distinct structures in North Wildwood's upper motel district. The Jade East is located on the south side of the E. 500 block of 4th Ave., in North Wildwood's upper motel district. It is bordered to the immediate west and southwest by the North Wind Motel and Mediterranean Condos (formerly Mediterranean Motel), respectively. The A Shore View Motel sits across 4th Ave. to the north, while the Acropolis Motor Inn looms large to the northeast. The beach and ocean are roughly half a block away to the east. The beauty of a place like the Jade East lies in the subtleness of its design. The color scheme, the little lantern lights outside of each room, the 'hooks' at the corners of the roofline... these are things that certainly won't hit you over the head, at least not the way the Singapore's huge pagoda-like structure will. But these design points are very effective in helping to create an overall feel. It's kind of a low key place, like a lot of the motels in that area of North Wildwood, and it fits in perfectly.
