Motel was named after a famous hotel in Miami Beach, Florida designed by Morris Lapidus. It was his first resort hotel, "When the hotel opened in 1949, guards were kept at the entrance to make sure that only the guests could get in, and to keep out the hordes of lookers who flocked to the hotel, attracted by the bright colors and light.
