I was deeply influenced by The Summit on the Shore, which was a conference sponsored by CRDA (Casino Reinvestment Development Authority) in 2005. One mission of the conference was to preserve the Shore’s landscape and character. Tourism is the lifeblood of The Wildwoods’ economy and the quality of the Jersey Shore communities will ensure that tourists return year after year.
April 14th, 2008 at 9:06 pmIts influence is seen in the North Wildwood Land Development Ordinance. It has the following objectives (these are just a few);
- To promote the establishment of appropriate population densities and concentrations that will contribute to the well-being of persons, neighborhoods, communities, and regions and preservation of the environment.
- To provide a desirable visual environment through creative development techniques and good civic design and arrangements;
- To promote the conservation of historic sites and districts…
Since the Chateau Bleu Condominium is a National Landmark I would hope that the North Wildwood Planning Commission does the right thing and protects the integrity of this historic resource. A respectful renovation should not require setback variances. The preservation of the Chateau Bleu supports the visual environment that has been proven to draw tourists.
April 25-27 2008 is The Third Annual Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce Sensational 60’s Weekend. Historically we have had sellout concerts to approx. 6,000 baby-boomers. We hope that the visitors stay overnight, eat at restaurants, and buy souvenirs…spend money. How to we keep drawing folks to The Wildwoods in the shoulder season? We are selling our mid-century modern culture to tourists and the preservation of the Doo Wop motels can encourage tourism, even in the winter.
